We have a product. Now what?
Our roadmap is based on guesswork.
We are not sure if users want this.

What is Direction Check?

What is Direction Check?

Direction Check is a research and workshop process for product teams that already have something built. Whether you have an MVP, a prototype, or a live product, it answers one critical question: what should we build next, and why?

We validate your market hypotheses, research your competitors, and map what your users actually want from the next phase.

The result is a data-driven product roadmap, a prioritized feature list showing where to invest first, and a value proposition for your next development cycle that your team can act on and leadership can approve.

Let's talk

Our process & deliverables

01

Research

We start by establishing hypotheses about your product's future direction, then test them against real market and user data. We use AI-assisted analysis to process larger volumes of competitor and market data faster, giving you broader research coverage without extending the timeline. Every decision that follows is built on a factual foundation.

02

Workshops

We work directly with your team to share research insights, align on priorities, and define the product's next steps together. Workshops create a shared foundation for decisions, ensuring that the next steps in development are clear and user-focused.

Final Roadmap and Documentation

You receive complete documentation of the research process, findings, workshop outcomes, and recommended direction. Everything is structured for your team to act on or present clearly to leadership.

5 reasons to validate before you invest.

Your next development cycle is financially justified.

Every feature in the next release is ranked by user value and business return. You commit budget to what the data supports, not what the loudest voice in the room requested.

You solve problems users actually have right now.

User research reveals what has changed since your last release. You build for where your users are today, not where you assumed they would be six months ago.

Your whole team moves in the same direction.

Direction Check workshops turn competing internal opinions into a shared, documented conclusion. Stakeholders leave with the same understanding of what comes next and why.

Leadership approves the roadmap with confidence.

You present a researched, documented roadmap with clear rationale for every decision. Not a wishlist. Not a gut-feel plan. Something that holds up to scrutiny in a board room.

You know where the market is heading before you invest.

Competitor research reveals gaps in the current landscape that your next release can fill. You enter your next development cycle with a clear view of where opportunities exist and where competitors are falling short.

Frequently asked questions

What is Direction Check and how is it different from Product Discovery?

Product Discovery is for teams that are starting from scratch and need to validate a new product idea. Direction Check is for teams that already have a product, MVP, or prototype and need to decide what to build next. Discovery answers 'should we build this?' Direction Check answers 'where do we go from here?'

When should an enterprise team run Direction Check?

Direction Check is most valuable when you have a live product or MVP and are planning the next development phase, when your current roadmap is based on internal assumptions rather than user research, or when stakeholders disagree on where the product should go next. It gives you an objective, research-backed foundation for those decisions.

What does Direction Check deliver?

At the end of Direction Check you receive: a value proposition for your next product releases, a data-driven product roadmap, a strategic prioritization of features showing where to invest first, a competitor analysis report, persona documentation covering user needs and motivations, and a full set of research insights and recommendations. Everything your product and engineering teams need to plan the next cycle with confidence.

How long does a Direction Check engagement take?

A typical Direction Check engagement runs 3 to 6 weeks depending on the scope of research and the number of workshops required. You receive a complete documentation package at the end. We can discuss a condensed version if your timeline is tighter.

Who should be involved from our side?

At minimum, your CPO or product lead and your CTO or technical lead. If there are business stakeholders with strong opinions on product direction, including them in the workshop phase helps surface disagreements early and resolve them with data rather than politics.

Can Direction Check help us if we already have a roadmap?

Yes. If your existing roadmap was built on internal assumptions rather than user research, Direction Check will either validate it or surface reasons to revise it. Either outcome is valuable. Going into a development cycle with a tested roadmap is significantly less risky than going in with one that has never been challenged.

How does Direction Check reduce investment risk?

The most common cause of wasted development budget is investing in features users do not want or do not use. Direction Check tests your hypotheses before the development cycle begins. You enter the next phase knowing which features are justified by evidence and which ones need rethinking. That knowledge protects both your budget and your timeline.
