Finding balance between off-the-shelf solutions
and customising the product towards new business ideas
Leid is a Norwegian eco-friendly startup built on the idea of sustainable tool usage. The company lets people rent renovation equipment instead of buying it and storing it on a shelf most of the time. With 2 pick-up and return locations so far, Leid has introduced a new type of stock: whole bundles of products, prepared for each phase of a renovation.
“
Startup Development House has produced a functional e-commerce platform. A reliable and responsive partner, they create what they promise and they stay within budget. The client feels like they're an extension of their team.

The Challenge
As an early MVP, Leid used an off-the-shelf web app to validate their initial business idea. For the second stage of hypothesis testing, they needed a tailor-made solution: one that would let them add new versions of product stock, create a more appealing user experience (especially on mobile), and scale operations according to market response, all in the spirit of agile software development.
Product Discovery
The founders came to us with plenty of ideas and new hypotheses to test. We helped them narrow down the scope and prepare a durable, prioritized roadmap.
During remote workshops, we created several user personas (both B2B and B2C), mapped the main steps of the customer journey, and ideated on further business and feature concepts, prioritizing the most essential ones into a clickable prototype.
The Scope of Our Work
Our role was to help validate the new user flow and UX solutions, combining basic features from the first version of the app with new ideas. Key moments in the process? Design, user research, and prioritization of the first release scope.
The Solution
After several rounds of testing, we were ready to build a fully functional MVP with complex price adjustments plus stock and order management. Using the Ruby on Rails framework, within 5 months we remodeled the functions from the previously used solution and added several tailor-made features, all to help Leid scale up their business for private customers.
Leid emerged with a ready-to-use RWD platform that attracted more than 350 users and over 330 bookings within its first 2 months. The next phase of development will focus on automating internal operations, quality assurance, and opening up to B2B customers.
